Alcohol Related Disease Impact (ARDI)

The Alcohol Related Disease Impact system is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It generates estimates of alcohol related deaths and years of potential life lost (YPLL). Alcohol Attributable Fractions determines the proportion of deaths that are due to alcohol.

If a death is solely the result of alcohol (such as alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver), it would have a Alcohol Attributable Fraction of 1.0. Alcohol- related deaths may be from acute or chronic conditions and can be considered direct or indirectly the result of alcohol. User Functionality Users can generate tables of alcohol-attributable deaths, or years of potential life lost, or alcohol attributable fractions by individual state or at the United States national level.

Within each table, data is grouped by male or female, by specific condition, and by subtotal of type of condition, either chronic or acute. Users can download data tables and the data sets used to generate the table. Data

Data on deaths is taken from the Nati onal Vital Statistics System (NVSS) and data regarding alcohol consumption is taken from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). ARDI began in 2001, with the most recent data being from 2005, and the site does not specify when new data will become available.
