GOES-10 NOAA/NESDIS Fog Depth Product

The GOES-10 NOAA/NESDIS Fog Depth Product (GIF) is one of several satellite products collected as part of the Dynamics and Chemistry of Marine Stratocumulus Phase-II: Entrainment Studies (DYCOMS-II) project field catalog operated by the National Center For Atmospheric Research/Earth Observing Laboratory (NCAR/EOL: catalog.eol.ucar.edu/dycoms). The experimental fog depth displayed in the color enhanced image is an estimate of the cloud layer thickness based on the IR brightness difference between GOES channel 2 (3.9 micron) and channel 4 (10.7 micron).

The products cover the period from 3-31 July 2001 (except 27-30 July) and cover the DYCOMS-II region and the South West United States (25-42 N and 95-130 W). The products are available hourly during the night (03-12 UTC). The products were acquired from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) Office of Research and Applications.
