Replication Data for: Fig 21.1, GPDs, Infanticide vs density of study-area, 16 July 2026

Details of the GPD study-areas are in Chapters 4, 11, and 21. These data used for Fig 21.1 in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 07 April 2025.

I considered data from the same prairie dog in different years to be independent. GPD Redondo Meadow Colony (RMC, studied in 2013 through 2016) was at Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP) GPD Visitor Center Colony (VCC, studied in 2017 and 2018) was also at VCNP. GPD colony at Petrified Forest National Park (PEFO) was studied from 1989 through 1995.

Density of GPD study-area = number of adult and yearling BTPDs per hectare = number of adults and yearling at GPD study-area vs area occupied (hectares) by Rankin Ridge Colony At the GPD study-areas every year, all the adults and yearlings of both sexes were eartagged and marked with Nyanzol fur dye See Chapter 4 (page 45) of Hoogland 2026 for designation of GPD "study-areas" rather than GPD study-colonies. For BTPDs, I could record infanticides that occurred underground (most common) and also infanticides that occurred aboveground.

For GPDs, I could record only infanticides infanticides that occurred underground. For BTPDs, I could record both whole-litter and partial-litter infanticides. For GPDs, I could only record partial-litter infanticides of single GPD juveniles When I do the linear regression with the GPD numbers in THIS EXCEL file on 12 July 2026, I get P = 0.030.

When I did the linear regression with the same or a highly similar EXCEL file on 23 June 2020, I got P = 0.047. I do not understand, and cannot resolve, the discrepancy here. For Fig 21.1 of Hoogland 2026, I use P= 0.047.
