Description

This series contains topographic and hydrographic data. The topographic records covered the United States Gulf Coast and the Atlantic Coast south of the state of Georgia.

The hydrographic records include 90 percent of the U.S. coast to a depth of 200 feet. The topographic records feature data related to the elevation above mean high water or to the area between mean high water and mean low water along t he U.S. coast. Records also identify roads, forts, power lines and coast guard stations.

The hydrographic records include common stationary obstructions outside the low water lines, such as pilings and submerged objects, and information about the ecological condition of the ocean. The records also contain bottom characteristics, and sounding in fathoms, feet, or meters. The unit of observation for both sets of records is 0.01 second of latitude and longitude.

This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC). See the ARC catalog entry for this series for more information on this data and how to order it.
