Description
Source selection: all .jp2 files whose filename starts with bh, drawn from three archive subsets: Positive (~589k images) — only files ending in _recto Negative (~156k images) — all matching files Digitale (~121k images) — all matching files This excludes from this dataset the Gernsheim Corpus of Drawings and other collections not named starting with bh.
Also files producing errors for any reason in the process have been excluded. Processing: each source image was requested from a local Cantaloupe IIIF Image API (v3) server, which resolved the archive's own filename (minus extension) as the image identifier and rendered the derivative on the fly — no local image processing was performed by the pipeline itself. Positive images were cropped to their central 80%×80% region (10% trimmed off each side, roughly removing the mount/support-frame border) before resizing.

This can result in over cropped images. This results in cropped images especially for Postcards, Bildkarten and other collections not mounted on paper in the Positive. Similarly cardboard support with more then one photograph will have a part of each photo, but never a complete one.
Negative and Digitale images were used in full, uncropped. All derivatives were then resized to 336×336 (preserving ratio), then saved as JPEG. Layout: derivatives are sharded into a two-level directory structure (10 × 20 = 200 leaf folders, ~4,300 files each) to keep individual directories manageable at this scale; filenames retain the original stem plus a short hash for uniqueness.
