Hugo Island LTER AWS ten-minute observational data, 2024 - present (ongoing).

Listed in AMRDC Data Repository

The Hugo Island Automatic Weather Station is installed on a small island adjacent to Hugo Island along the West Antarctic Peninsula (64.963°S, 65.669°W).

Description

The station is mounted at approximately 27 m above sea level. Data is saved every 10 minutes.

Data column descriptions are listed below. Data Column | Variable | Units or Format | Comments - 1 | Date/Time of Data Transmission | Y-M-d H:M:S - 2 | Date/Time of Data Measurement | “Y-M-d H:M:S” The time stamp is that of the end of the 10-min measurement interval for each data point. - 3 | Voltage of Internal Recorder Battery | volts Minimum voltage measured during the 10-min interval. - 4 | Internal temperature of recorder | degrees Celsius The internal panel temperature (inside data logger, field 4) is a 10 minute average of 5 second samples. - 5 | Voltage of the AWS Battery Pack | volts Minimum voltage measured during the 10-min interval. - 6 | Atmospheric Temperature | degrees Celsius 10-min average of samples every 5 seconds. - 7 | Atmospheric Pressure | millibar This is a sample average during a 1-min measurement period at minute 6 of each measurement interval.

This variable is adjusted to sea level using an offset. - 8 | Wind Speed | meters per second 10-min average of samples every 5 seconds. - 9 | Wind Direction | degrees 10-min average of samples every 5 seconds. Measured in meteorological convention (i.e,, 0 degrees is wind from the north, 90 degrees is winds from the east). Direction is nearly geographical, as sensor was oriented to correct a 19 degrees east local magnetic declination.

Users should consider further drift in the declination. - 10 | Standard Deviation of the Wind Direction | degrees - 11 | Gust Speed | meters per second Maximum wind speed during the measuring interval (10 min) - 12 | Gust Time | “Y-M-d H:M:S” Date/Time of Gust Speed measurement. Instruments: - Campbell Sci. CR1000x: Data Logger - R.M. Young 05108-L: Wind Speed and Direction - Vaisala PTB110: Atmospheric Pressure - Apogee ST-110: Air Temperature
