Housing reconstruction decision-making in a multi-hazard context in Lumbini Province, Nepal

The purpose of the dataset is to better understand the reconstruction decisions of households living in highly flood-prone areas (with earthquake risks) in Nepal.
Description
Data is collected showing drivers and barriers to building back flood and seismic-resistant housing to find pathways for more housing assistance. Data collection included household interviews, structural assessments of reconstructed houses, community data, focus group discussions, key-stakeholder interviews, and field observations.
These data were collected during fieldwork conducted between February and May 2024. Data were collected in two highly flood-prone districts, Banke and Dang. The area is frequently impacted by floods and received no to limited humanitarian or governmental technical assistance for the reconstruction.

The sample included 19 communities, 9 in Dang and 10 in Banke. Communities were identified using a combination of geographical boundaries and the smallest identifiable administrative order, the ward level. At all sites, observation was intensively used to get insight into the general social and economic conditions, existing spatial understanding, and the current state and availability of physical infrastructures and services, such as roads, schools, health, markets, facilities, and services.
The data is currently being used to explore social knowledge networks, funding, technical assistance, risk perceptions, seismic and flood resistance of houses, motivations, abilities, and opportunities.
