Shark Bay Amphibolis antarctica defoliation follwing 2011 marine heatwave and Wooramel River flood

Listed in DataCite

Data on Amphibolis antarctica biomass in the eastern embayment of Shark Bay, Western Australia from 2011-2013.

Description

Supporting data on environmental conditions (sea surface temperature and river flow) over similar time period. Data is significant as it indicates a short term loss of seagrass leaf biomass, followed by a longer term loss of seagrass belowground biomass, suggesting that the 2011 WA marine heatwave and Gascoyne floods contributed to reduce resilience in Shark Bay's foundation species.

This data is linked to the 2014 Journal of Ecology paper 'Extreme climate events lower resilience of foundation seagrass at edge of biogeographical range'.
