This is the reference checklist of troglobionts of Portugal.
Description
This work includes a meta-analysis of all bibliographic sources dealing with cave-adapted fauna from Portugal. The 76 species were carefully selected based on their degree of adaptation and dependence on cave life-style.
Only troglobiont (obligate terrestrial cave-adapted) species were selected, over more than 200 publications, published between 1870 and June 2026, containing information about taxonomics, ecology, ecotoxicology, ecophysiology and conservation of cave fauna from Portugal.
