Spatial Distribution Dataset of Ski Runs at Outdoor Ski Resorts in China (2024–2025 Ski Season)

Listed in ScienceDB

Accurate spatial location and ski‑run boundary data for ski resorts are essential for conducting ice‑and‑snow tourism resource surveys, analyzing spatial patterns of ski resorts, and assessing resource and environmental impacts.

Description

Existing publicly available ski resort distribution data are mostly provided as industry directories or points of interest, which generally lack unified object identification, location correction, and ski‑run boundary information.

To address these limitations, this study integrates multi‑source geospatial information from Amap, Baidu Maps, Tencent Maps, OpenStreetMap, and OpenSkiMap, together with Sentinel‑2A/B multispectral multi‑temporal remote sensing imagery and open‑map ski‑run data. Using a combined approach of multi‑threshold automatic recognition and manual interactive interpretation, we constructed a 30 m resolution spatial distribution dataset of ski‑run areas for outdoor ski resorts in China for the 2024–2025 ski season.

The data production workflow encompassed candidate object acquisition, name standardization, cross‑source entity matching, authenticity verification of objects, representative point correction, delineation of candidate ski‑run areas, boundary review, area calculation, and attribute database construction. The dataset contains the center‑point coordinates of 911 outdoor ski resorts and their remotely interpreted ski‑run area distributions.

According to the ski‑run area thresholds of 8 hm², 15 hm², and 40 hm² specified in the Quality Specification for Tourist Ski Resorts (LB/T 037‑2024), the resorts were classified into Groups I–IV, comprising 772, 53, 51, and 35 objects, respectively. All objects have been cross‑validated through multiple sources, and full consistency checks have been performed on point‑polygon primary keys, geometric validity, area conversion, and core attributes.

This dataset provides fundamental data support for identifying the spatial pattern of ski resorts in China, surveying ice‑and‑snow tourism resources, and assessing climate risks.
