When the Self Makes Things Look Clearer: Data and Code for Investigating Self-Prioritization in Perception

Listed in ScienceDB

Self-prioritization refers to the tendency for information associated with the self to receive prioritized processing compared with information associated with others.

Description

Although previous studies have consistently demonstrated faster and more accurate responses to self-associated stimuli, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In particular, it remains unresolved whether self-prioritization reflects enhanced sensory processing of self-associated information or changes in how sensory evidence is evaluated during perceptual decisions. This dataset contains behavioral data and analysis code from seven experiments designed to investigate the computational mechanisms underlying self-prioritization in perception.

Across experiments, participants first learned associations between visual stimuli and two social identity categories: self-associated and other-associated stimuli. Participants then completed perceptual tasks designed to examine different aspects of perceptual processing, including subjective clarity judgments, perceptual sensitivity, confidence, and orientation discrimination.
