Vietnam Experience Study Files

The agency created and maintained these files in conjunction with a major study of the exposure of U.S. Army personnel to Agent Orange during the Vietnamese Conflict, conducted in accordance with the Veterans Health Programs Extension and Improvements Act of 1979 (Public Law 96-151) and the Veterans Health Care, Training and Small Business Loan Act of 1981 (Public Law 97-72). The agency abstracted these data from a selection of U.S. Army personnel files retrieved from the National Military Personnel Records Center and supplied the coded data to the project lead, the Centers for Disease Control.

This series contains data on selected Army personnel who served in the Vietnamese conflict during 1967 and 1968 and were assigned to units tracked in the series "Battalion Tracking Study Files, 1983-1986" (ARC Identifier 644345). Records include name, Social Security number, study qualification / disqualification indicators, group, rank, service number, date of entrance, date of separation, type of service, date and place of birth, address, marital status, race, physical profile, reason for relief from duty, aptitude test scores, date of death, country of service, service dates, military occupational specialty code, type of assignment, relative contact information, and comments.
