National historical narratives in online newspapers: collective memories of troubled colonial past in Spain (DIALOGHISTORIES Project)

This study analyzes narratives produced about the so-called Discovery and Conquest of the Americas in the four most widely read online newspapers in Spain. Using content analysis, 200 newspaper articles were examined.

The study explores the role of the nation as a historical subject, moral judgments, and exoneration strategies employed to justify its actions. The dataset provides access to the information needed to identify the 200 newspaper articles analyzed in the study, as well as the analytical codes used and the frequencies obtained, thereby enabling the replication of the analyses.
