Gesture and Its Perception

Listed in ZivaHub

“Gesture and Its Perception” is a foundational text in which the author examines the genesis of movement, focusing on the first impulse in the body that is activated before the movement is begun.

Description

The term “premovement” is introduced to describe subtle shifts in gravity, barely perceptible to the eye, but that determine the quality of movement that follows. The essay argues that the relationship to one’s weight, to gravity, already contains a temperament or intention toward the world.

The psyche expresses itself through its gravitational system; its investments charge movement with meaning, modulating and coloring it with desire, inhibition, and emotion. The gravitational organization of an individual is a complex mixture of phylogenetic, cultural, and individual parameters.
