缪子散射成像数据集

Description

This dataset contains experimental data from cosmic-ray muon scattering tomography and comprises three ROOT files: “zhong.root,” “copperandtungsten.root,” and “T_sand.root.” These files correspond, respectively, to a Chinese character “中” assembled from tungsten cubes with side lengths of 2 cm, a combination of a hollow copper canister and a tungsten block, and a T-shaped arrangement of sand-filled containers.

The cumulative data-acquisition times for the three experiments were approximately 40 h, 40 h, and 64 h, respectively. The samples were positioned between the upstream and downstream tracking modules of the muon imaging system and shielded by stainless-steel plates. The experiments were conducted using a Micromegas-based muon imaging system comprising two-dimensional X–Y Micromegas detectors, chip-based front-end electronics, a data-acquisition board, a host computer, and high-voltage modules.

Each detector had an active area of approximately 600 mm × 600 mm and a readout-strip pitch of 400 μm. The system operated in an upstream–downstream coincidence self-triggering mode. The raw electronic signals were decoded, mapped to the corresponding detector planes, and reconstructed into hit clusters before being stored in ROOT format.

Each file contains information on the detector planes, hit positions in the X and Y directions, signal amplitudes, the number of channels within each hit cluster, and the Z coordinates of the detector planes. These data can be used to fit the incident and outgoing muon trajectories and perform muon scattering tomography. No conventional numerical missing values were identified in the dataset. Some detector planes contain no valid hits for particular events, mainly because of detector efficiency, geometrical acceptance, electronic thresholds, and noise-suppression procedures.

Trailing zeros in the fixed-length arrays are padding values and do not represent physical measurements. The principal sources of uncertainty include the finite spatial resolution of the detectors, detector installation and alignment errors, electronic noise, hit-position reconstruction errors, and the stochastic nature of multiple Coulomb scattering. The ROOT files can be read and analyzed using CERN ROOT or the Python package Uproot.
