Data on composite dry-hot events during the growing season from May to September from 2000 to 2024 in the Qiangtang Plateau
Listed in ScienceDB
This study constructed a daily scale composite dry and hot event dataset for the vegetation growth season (May September) in the Qiangtang Plateau from 2000 to 2024.
Description
The dataset was generated by coupling daily temperature data with root zone soil moisture data, which can accurately reflect the composite extreme climate characteristics of high temperature and drought occurring synchronously during the growth season in the study area.
It provides refined data support for the ecological environment evolution, extreme climate disaster assessment, and vegetation response mechanism research of the Qiangtang Plateau. The core driving data of the dataset comes from publicly available and authoritative meteorological and land surface reanalysis datasets, which are standardized and processed to form a long-term continuous dataset suitable for this study. Among them, the daily temperature data is taken from the China Meteorological Forcing Dataset (CMFD), which is a regional ground meteorological element driven dataset in China.

Based on the built-in 3-hour resolution hourly temperature data in the dataset, the highest daily temperature is extracted through daily screening, and a long-term, high-precision daily scale high temperature characterization data is constructed. The soil moisture data in the root zone was obtained using ERA5 Land global land surface reanalysis volumetric soil moisture content product. Combined with the distribution characteristics of alpine vegetation roots in the Qiangtang Plateau, the soil moisture data of the second layer (7-28 cm) and the third layer (28-100 cm), which can represent the main water absorbing layer of vegetation, were selected.
Based on the thickness of the soil layers of the two layers, a weighted average calculation was carried out to integrate and generate an approximate root zone soil moisture sequence at a depth of 7-100 cm, accurately depicting the soil dry and wet conditions of the key layer of vegetation growth. Finally, through the overlay analysis of daily temperature and root zone soil moisture data, the composite dry heat events during the growth season of the Qiangtang Plateau from 2000 to 2024 were identified and statistically analyzed, forming a long-term composite dry heat event dataset with continuous time series, spatial adaptation, and unified indicators.
