Species Licence Returns Data 2017-2025

This dataset contains species occurrence records extracted from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) Species Licence Return documentation and mobilised through a partnership with Local Environmental Records Centres (LERC Wales).
Description
Records were captured from licence return documents submitted between 2017 and 2025 and include observations of species recorded during licensed activities across Wales. The dataset supports biodiversity research, conservation, species monitoring and evidence-based environmental decision making.
Species records were manually extracted from NRW Species Licence Return documents and entered into the Cofnod Online Recording System using a customised data capture form. Standard information including species, observation date, grid reference, recorder details and licence information was recorded where available. Records underwent validation, duplicate checking and quality assurance, with approximately 10% independently verified.

The dataset was subsequently exported in Darwin Core format for publication through the NBN Atlas. Sensitive species information and selected personal data have been removed prior to publication.
