Drug Offense Enforcement and Case Disposition Study Files

The agency conducted these studies in support of its mission to conduct a comprehensive study of drug abuse and the use of marihuana in the United States.

Description

The agency used these data in part to prepare the reports "Marihuana: A Signal of Misunderstanding" and "Drug Abuse in America: Problem in Perspective." This series contains results from two studies based on police, prosecutorial, and court records to document the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of marihuana and drug offen ders, and the circumstances surrounding the detection and arrest of the offenders through prosecutorial and judicial disposition.

The data consists of a personal profile of each arrestee including age, sex, marital status, ethnicity, citizenship, occupation and employment status, education, prior drug use, and prior police contact. Also included are data detailing the circumstances of detection and arrest, the post-arrest pre-trial disposition, the trial, and the sentencing. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
