TRansitions Into Active Living (TRIAL)

Its central purpose is to examine how the transitions from education into the labour market and into first-time parenthood relate to sport and everyday physical activity, and which individual, social and contextual factors may explain changes in activity behaviour. Wave 1 established a broad baseline among young adults and additionally reconstructed selected parts of respondents’ earlier sport and activity careers, including the end of full-time education, the first job, the period around first parenthood, and sport in childhood and adolescence.

Waves 2 and 3 repeated key current physical-activity and sport measures and prospectively identified respondents who had left full-time education, started work, and/or become a parent between measurements. The later waves also added modules on the neighbourhood and sedentary behaviour, social participation and trust, sport-club choice, health and wellbeing, and gaming/e-sports. The supplied SPSS file is a linked wide-format file: one row represents one Wave 1 cohort member retained in the linked file, and variables from the three survey waves appear in separate W1_, W2_ and W3_ blocks.
