Listed in data.InDoRES

File name = R OLD File name = Fig 14.7, GPDs, Male body mass vs cop or no cop EARLY File name = GPDs, Male wts vs cop or no cop, PEFO and VCNP, 20 Aug 2020; See last line for FINAL FILE NAME See note below.

Description

I started this file from other file named GPDs, male wts vs cops, PEFO and VCNP, 15 Aug 2020 All data from this file checked on either 05 Aug 2020 (cases 1-225; see note below) or 20 Aug 2020 (cases 335-999). Data in this file checked ONE TIME ONLY by JLH.

But many data checked TWO TIMES. All body masses are in GRAMS. Note for cases 1-331 from 05 August 2020 Date = 05 Aug 2020.

For PEFO males that sired >=1 baby, checked for a body mass during the mating season and at 1st juvenile emergences in the following two places: the eartag summary sheets, and the marking summary sheets. For "Marchwt" I have used the FIRST (EARLIEST) WEIGHT taken in March until about 15 April = = GPD male body mass during mating season For "Junwt" I have used the LAST (LATEST) WEIGHT taken a just before first juvenile emergences through about 15 July = = GPD male body mass when juveniles were first emerging from their natal burrows Asterisk (*) means that male is INVADER or is not in list of clan compositions.

Invader = 0 means male was resident of study-colony. Invader = 1 means male was non-resident/invader. During week of 07 August 2020, all data in this file checked one time by JLH alone.

MOST DATA CHECKED TWO TIMES. FOR MALES FOR WHICH I HAVE NO INFORMATION ON COPS, I have many weights during the mating season or at 1st juvenile emergences. SOME of these latter data are in this EXCEL file, but many are not.

Some un-entered data are in one of the HARD COPIES of this file. Note that this file contains GPD data from 3 colonies: PEFO in 1989-1995; RMC in 2013-2016; and VCC in 2017-2018. PEFO = Petrified Forest National Park; RMC = Redondo Meadow Colony at Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP); VCC = Visitor Center Colony at VCNP OLD file name = GPDs, male wts vs cops, PEFO and VCNP, 15 Aug 2020 Mincops = Number of different sexual partners for which we are highly confident of a copulation Maxcops1 = mincops, I think on 05 May 2026.

I am not sure here. Maxcops = Mincops + number of different sexual partners for which we are less confident of a copulation. For these latter females, a copulation was POSSIBLE but not definite.

This excel file contains ALL DATA, with no edits. Most important, this file contains DUPLICATES for certain GPD males. For males that copped with >=1 male, variable = Repro is listed as one in the first half of the file (Cases 1-472).

For For these COPPING MALES early in the file, the SAME COPPING MALE is listed in the second half of the file (Cases 332-999) with Repro = 1. The first half of this file is to compare GPD male mass FOR GPD MALES THAT COPPED vs number of cops The second half of this file is to compare GPD male body mass for GPD COPPING MALES vs GPD NONCOPPING MALES I need BOTH HALVES of the file to compare body mass of GPD copping males vs body mass of noncopping GPD males In this file, with edits, I have DELETED the critical data for second-half males that are included in first-half males For the latter males, I have included "See first half" under Comment1 For second-half males, Maxcops2 are not necessarily identical to Maxcops1 Finally, I have made several small edits to first half of this file (Cases 1-335)

Note

I have deleted cases in first part of file for which Maxcops = 0 or Maxcops = . or Maxcops = [blank, for no data]. In all these cases, Repro now = 1 This change makes for easier checking of file. This is the file I will use to compare body mass for (a) GPD males that did copulate vs (b) GPD males that did not copulate Note that I have body masses for Marchwt = body mass taken <= 15 April (with a few exceptions--e.g., if male aroused late from hibernated) and Junewt = body mass taken >= 15 May = just before, during, or just after juveniles were first emerging from their natal nuraery-burrows File name for this analysis = GPDs, male wts vs cop or no cop, WITH FINAL EDITS, 21 Aug 2020

Note

Most data in this file checked two times; but some checked only one time I considered data from the same male in different years to be independent. Age = age in years since first emergence from natal nursery-burrow These data used for Figure 14.7 in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 06 March 2025.

Reprod status = reproductive status = 0 = male did NOT copulate in year of observation Reprod status = 1 = male DID copulate in year of observation Marchwt = male body mass just before, during, or just after, mating season I defined mating season as time interval between (and including) the first copulation and last copulation at the study colony Junewt = male body mass just before, during, or just after period when juveniles were first emerging from their natal burro were first emerging from their natal burrow entrances Comment1 = date of capture and male body mass For Comment#2, PSDT = pigmented scrotum descended testes = male is sexually active Comment #2 also indicates changes of eartags Chunk was a male invader in 2018 whom we never captured Rttag = right eartag Leftag = left eartag cop = copulate, and copping = copulating Wt = weight = body mass For Fig 14.7 for GPDs, I compare Marchwt for Reprod status = 0 vs Reprod status = 1 Almost all GPD males at >=2 years copulated.

Yearling GPD males sometimes DID copulate, but often did NOT copulate. See Chapter 11 of Hoogland 2026. File name = Fig 14.7, GPDs, Male body mass vs probability of copulation, 05 May 2025
