Viet Cong Initiated Incident File

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

The agency created this series to collect detailed data on Viet Cong terrorist activities against military units during the Vietnam Conflict, 1961-1975.

Description

The agency used the data to determine patterns of activity or targets, to evaluate security and pacification efforts, and to act as an intelligence base for military decisions. This series contains all reported incidents of violence and terrorism initiated by the Viet Cong / North Vietnamese forces against American, Republic of South Vietn am or other allied armed forces.

Each record consists of the time and location of the incident, numbers of friendly and enemy casualties, enemy activity by type, enemy objectives by priority, and a description of the action. The Systems Analysis unit inherited this series from the International Security Affairs unit in 1965. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
