(2) The user runs model selection via a <b>calibration tool</b> by sending the PEtab Select problem to the PEtab Select <b>package</b>, which initiates iterations of model selection. (2a) The package provides model candidates to the calibration tool based on the problem specification and the available calibration results.

(2b) The calibration tool calibrates the proposed candidate models and sends the calibration results to the package. Iterations of (2a) and (2b) continue until the package sends a termination signal to indicate the end of model selection. The results are provided in the PEtab Select model format and include all calibrated models with their calibration results.
