The interviewee was born on 20 February, 1916. He is Jewish and tried to escape for that reason to Sweden, by ship from Rotterdam.

However, he was arrested and came to work in camp Westerbork because of his legal background with the Antragstelle. This was where Jewish prisoners could file a request for exemption from deportation. His main job concerned the so-called (racial) descent cases.

In these cases, Jews tried to prove that they didn’t have Jewish grandparents. He explains how he was sometimes able to help these people. He also talks about a transport he saw depart with children onboard.

He also discusses the liberation and his marriage in the camp in this interview. His interview is related to two others in this project, the interviews RG-50.570.0001 and RG-50.570.0005.
