Factors affecting oxygen storage capacity measurement of three-way automotive catalysts

Description
Oxygen Storage Capacity (OSC), enabled by ceria in the catalyst washcoat, supports performance under transient conditions and is a key metric for on-board diagnostics (OBD). This study investigates the effects of tailpipe gases on OSC using full-scale catalyst samples tested on a CATAGEN OMEGA reactor.
A new layered OSC model was developed and validated to simulate ageing and the impact of background emissions. Results showed that HC caused up to a 50% increase in measured OSC, CO led to moderate increases, and NOx reduced OSC due to competitive redox reactions.<br><br><i>Thesis embargoed until 31 July 2030.</i>
