Uppu audio text collection

Listed in SWISSUbase

This dataset consists of Uppu audio texts, primarily documented under the current project.

Description

Uppu is a Southeastern South Central Tibeto-Burman language spoken in the border area of Chin and Rakhaine states in Burma, as well as in the Magwe division. The number of Uppu speakers is hard to determine.

Available online resources estimate the number between 30,000 to 45,000, but the consultants I have worked with estimate the number as large as 1,000,000. This collection includes 12 audio files and they include Uppu audio stories and procedural audio texts. These audio texts were recorded in a hotel room and in a church outskirt of Yangon, Myanmar.
