The interviewee grew up in Achterom, near Hoogeveen. As a baker’s assistant, he brought bread to Kremboong work camp. In the camp’s cantine he regularly talked to Jews and organised bread for them.

He was witness to the abuse of a Jew. He also remembers a conversation with a German soldier about the Jews. He had himself declared unfit by a German doctor to avoid being sent to Germany to work.
