The Determination of Reemployment Status of Laid-off Public Employees due to Privatization: a Follow-up Study

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

This project aimed to study the impacts of the changes of economic governance mechanism on social stratification structure in Taiwan.

Description

To be more specific, the author intends to study the consequences of privatization upon job rights of previous state-owned enterprises employees. There are two different meanings concering job rights in this study.

It represents both the deprivation of work opportunities in the SOE and the probabilities of getting reemployeed in the formal labor markets (only those who desired to work after layoff). Taiwan Motor Transport Company is the focus of the analysis, mainly those who were laid off or took early retirement at the end of 1996. Using the questionnaire survey for the study, I conducted both telephone and mail methods to make the most effective usage of the list.
