Civilian Complaints Against New York City Police Officers

Listed in BERD@NFDI Data Portal

The "New York City Police Officer Complaints" dataset is a comprehensive, publicly available database of over 12,000 civilian complaints filed against NYPD officers, compiled by ProPublica following the repeal of New York State’s 50-a law, which previously shielded police disciplinary records.

Description

It includes detailed records of closed cases for officers still on the force as of late June 2020, covering allegations from September 1985 to January 2020, with information on officer details (name, rank, shield number, precinct), complainant demographics, allegation categories, and investigative outcomes.
