Replication Data for: Verification of tensile stresses considering a orthotropic size effect in finite element based design

Listed in DaRUS

This repository contains the full dataset used for the analysis shown in the related paper.

Description

Additionally, figures with the result of the model fitting against different datasets are shown, which due to space restrictions could not be added to the main paper. The complementary data is structured in different folders in the following way: fit_size_effect: This folder contains the three-dimensional diagrams from the fitting of the orthotropic size effect to the numerical data of Frese et al., Vafadar et al., and Vida et al..

The bending strengths are plotted over the member lengths and depths. The size effect, described in Eq. (9) of the INTER paper, was fitted with maximum likelihood estimation to the numerical data.

Not Eq. (9) itself, but logarithmic expressions of the exact analytical equations of the size effect for the loading configurations displayed in Figure 3 were utilised for the fitting. The figures are labelled in the following way: 1.

Authors, 2. loading configuration (optional, as only necessary for distinguishing the data from the Habilitation of Frese), 3. strength class, 4. 5 = 5th-percentile level, mean = mean level, 5. log = log-log-diagram (optional). Both html and pdf versions of the files are provided. The html files are interactive plots. comparison_numerical This folder contains the diagrams comparing the numerically fitted size effects of Frese et al., Vafadar et al., and Vida et al., see Table 4, to the experimental data listed in Table 1.The bending strengths are plotted over the relative volume V/V_mref referring to four-point-bending with dimensions $\ell_1 = \ell_2$ = 3600 mm and $h$ = 600 mm.The combination of different numerically fitted size effects in one diagram without contradicting scaling of the relative volume on the x-axis is only possible due to the assumption of $\ell = 6 \cdot h$.

Only experimental results for which $5.5 h \leq \ell <= 6.5 h$ applies are plotted. The diagrams are plotted with log-log axes. The figures are labelled in the following way: 1. 5 = 5th-percentile level, mean = mean level. These are Figures 4 and 5 in the paper. comparison_with_experiments This folder contains the diagrams comparing the numerically fitted size effect of Frese et al., Vafadar et al., and Vida et al., see Table 4, to the experimental data listed in Table 1 of the paper.

The bending strenghts are plotted over the relative effective volume $V'/V_{m,\text{ref}}$ referring to four-point-bending with dimensions $\ell_1 = \ell_2$ = 3600 mm and $h$ = 600 mm. $m_{/ell}$ is chosen as reference size effect and the depth transformed by $h' = h_{\text{ref}} \cdot (h/h_{\text{ref}})^{m_L/m_H}$; $V' = \ell \cdot h'$. The figures are labelled in the following way: 1. Authors, 2. strength class (optional, as a mean values of the Weibull moduli were assumed for Frese et al with $m_5$ = 14.6 and $m_{\text{mean}}$ = 12.3), 3. 5 = 5th-percentile level, mean = mean level, 4. log = log-log-diagram (optional).

These diagrams contain Figures 2 and 3 in the paper. data: This folder contains both the experimental and simulation data used to fit the model and generate the figures defined above. The source/publication of each dataset are given in the respective tables.
