Percentage of individuals still in the natal coterie territory at different ages, 29 July 2026 OLDFile name: Fig 22.4, UPDs, Percentage of individuals still in the natal territory at different ages. The number above each bar in graph indicates the number of individuals still alive and living at the home colony-site for each age All these data from the Horse Corral Colony at Bryce Canyon National Park. A prairie dog that was still in the natal territory as a 3-year old, for example, was ALSO still in the natal territory as a 2-year old and a 1-year old. The number above each bar indicates the sample size for each age. Note that numbers here and in graph are for PERCENTAGES These data checked TWO TIMES on 26 June 2021, also on 24 July 2026.

These data used for Fig 22.4 in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 22 April 2025. Percentage = <.> means no data.

For UPD ages 1 through 5 , P < 0.001 for all interspecific comparisons (2x2 chi-square test) For UPD year-6, P = 0.094, Fisher exact test. For year-7, no statistical significance. No UPD males were still alive at the study colony beyond 7 years.

See Fig 11.9. No UPD females were still alive at the study colony beyond 8 years. See Fig 11.9.

This figure shows that long-term philopatry for UPDs was common for females, but rare for males. Age in this EXCEL file and Fig 22.4 = years since first emergence from the natal burrow entrance All data on philopatry in this EXCEL file and in Fig 22.4 are from prairie dogs that remained at the study-colony. For Fig 22.4, I have no information on prairie dogs that dispersed long-distance away from the study-colony.

Information in this EXCEL file and Fig 22.4 comes from SUMMARIES of data over many years. Raw data for these summaries are in my field notes. Data for this EXCEL file and Fig 22.4 were checked on 22 April 2025 and 24 July 2026.
