The agency created and maintained these files in conjunction with a major study of the exposure to radiation from the Nuclear Test Program and the health effects from radiation exposure.
Description
This series contains radiation exposure data for approximately 50,000 persons who participated in the Nuclear Test Program. The data are in six record types: Internal Dose Records; External Dose Records; Series Records; Correspondence Records; Identification Records; and Unit Records.
Internal Dose Rec ords include the military identification number, service number, series name, exposure start and end dates, body part dose, and internal nuclides. External Dose Records include the military identification number, service number, series name, exposure start and end dates, and gamma, beta, and neutron dose data. Series Records include the military identification number, series name and indicator, grade or rank codes, and exposure location.

Correspondence Records include the military identification number, correspondence code, and dates of letters sent and received. Identification Records include the military identification number, source and change codes, name, address Social Security number, telephone number, grade, sex, date and place of birth, date and place of death, cancer identifier, and Veterans Administration claim number. Unit Records include the military identification number, series name, participating unit, permanent unit, and attach start and end dates.
