National Statistical Profile of Canadian Libraries Data

The National Statistical Profile of Canadian Libraries is an annexure (separate appendix), along with its companion annexure the National Values Profile of Canadian Libraries, to the National Statistical and Values Profile of Canadian Libraries: Report to CLA Executive Council (Canadian Library Association; November 2012), which is a report consisting of an Executive Summary of findings and methodologies for each of the two principal components of the project—library statistics and library value—together with corresponding detailed separate appendices (annexures), national statistical profile and national values profile, that were intended to serve as “raw data” for future analysis, synthesis, review, discussion, refinement, and advocacy efforts.

The national statistical profile captured four library sectors—public libraries, academic libraries (university and college libraries), school libraries, and three national special libraries (Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information [CISTI], Library and Archives Canada [LAC]), and the Library of Parliament [LOP])—and the library statistics were obtained and compiled from secondary sources including library agencies, associations, and consortia, as well as several other sources, including Statistics Canada.
