Description
In 1944, toen hij 22 was, werd hij opgeroepen voor dienstplicht. Hij dacht naar Nederland te vertrekken als bezettingsmacht voor na de oorlog, maar het werd Nederlands Indië, waar hij deelnam aan hevige gevechten tegen de Japanners.
Na afloop van de oorlog wilde men zijn eenheid gebruiken tegen de Javaanse opstandelingen van Soekarno. De eenheid weigerde echter tegen de Javanen te vechten. Daarna kon hij beroeps worden in Bergen op Zoom, maar zijn zwangere vrouw kon niet in Nederland aarden.

Ze zijn toen teruggekeerd naar Suriname.
