Annual 1 km Ecosystem Quality Index Dataset for the Qinling Region, China, 2001–2024

This dataset provides annual gridded Ecosystem Quality Index (EQI) data for the Qinling Region, China, from 2001 to 2024, comprising 24 annual layers.
Description
The data were generated in Google Earth Engine from MODIS products, including MOD13Q1 normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), MOD15A2H leaf area index (LAI), and MOD17A3HGF gross primary productivity (GPP). FVC was estimated from annual maximum NDVI using a pixel dichotomy model.
FVC, LAI, and GPP were independently normalized within the Qinling region to obtain relative densities on a 0–1 scale. Following the ecosystem quality assessment approach of HJ 1172–2021, the three relative densities were averaged with equal weights and multiplied by 100 to produce an EQI ranging from 0 to 100. Each annual layer is a single-band GeoTIFF at 1 km resolution in EPSG:3857, with −9999 as NoData.

Quality checks confirmed a complete 2001–2024 sequence and consistent raster dimensions, resolution, projection, geotransform, and NoData settings. Valid EQI values range from 1.21 to 100.00, and annual regional means range from 70.93 to 77.12. The dataset supports ecosystem-quality monitoring, vegetation-condition assessment, and ecological-change analysis in the Qinling Region.
