Dataset of rhizosphere soil properties, celery yield and microbial communities regulated by root extracts of different vegetables under continuous celery cropping

Listed in ScienceDB

This dataset supports the paper Effects of root extracts from different vegetables on rhizosphere soil properties and microbial communities of continuously cropped celery.

Description

The field experiment was carried out in Yuqiao Village, Xiji County, Guyuan, Ningxia in 2023 on black loessial soil with 3-year continuous celery cropping. Five treatments were set: celery root extract (AG, control), baby cabbage extract (BC), pepper extract (CA), welsh onion extract (AF), broccoli extract (BO), with randomized block design and three replicates for each treatment.

The dataset covers all original experimental and statistical data: 1. Soil physicochemical indicators: nitrate nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus, soil organic matter;2. Soil enzyme activities: urease, sucrase, catalase;3.

Field agronomic indexes: celery yield per square meter and disease incidence;4. High-throughput sequencing data of rhizosphere microbes: ASV abundance tables of bacterial 16S rRNA (V3V4) and fungal ITS1 region; alpha diversity indices (Chao1, Shannon, Simpson, Pielou) and genus-level relative abundance of bacteria and fungi;5. Raw statistical outputs: one-way ANOVA & LSD multiple comparison, Spearman correlation matrix, redundancy analysis (RDA), grey relational evaluation matrix. Soil parameters were measured following standard methods in Soil Agrochemical Analysis.

Microbial sequencing was performed on Illumina NovaSeq platform and bioinformatic analysis was processed via QIIME 2 pipeline. Yield and disease data were obtained from field investigation. The dataset fully reveals the regulatory effects of various vegetable root extracts on soil fertility, soil-borne diseases and rhizosphere microecology of continuously cropped celery.

It can be reused for research on celery rotation optimization in southern Ningxia, microecological mechanism of continuous cropping obstacles, and interaction between soil nutrients and microorganisms. This work was funded by Ningxia Natural Science Foundation (2024AAC03384) and Ningxia Agricultural High-quality Development & Ecological Protection Science and Technology Demonstration Project (NGSB-2021-8-06).
