Bird and Bat Fatality Monitoring Reports - CDFW [ds3394]

This information can be useful for many different things, but primarily serves to document the impact of a facility. Occasionally, the data collected during these reports can inform future turbine construction, placement, and other factors in an effort to reduce the overall number of fatalities.

In California, this kind of information is often collected as a requirement of a project's compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Reports are conducted by consultants and submitted to a project's Lead Agency (often the county the project is located in), and sometimes also to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). These reports are retained by CDFW and/or the Lead Agency for future use, but are in practice not often shared in a way that is useful for statewide analysis.
