Synergistic effect of acid-base modified biochar and bentonite on the immobilization rates of Cu and Zn in pig manure composting
Listed in ScienceDB
To immobilize heavy metals in livestock and poultry manure and promote the resource utilization and harmless disposal of agricultural waste, this experiment used piure and corn cobs as raw materials.
Description
Eight treatments were established: acidic biochar 4% (F1), acidic biochar 4% calcium-based ntonite 4% (F2), alkaline biochar 4% (F3), alkaline biochar calcium-based bentonite 4% (F4), unmodifed biochar 4% (F5), unmodified biochar calcium-based bentonite 4% (F6), calcium-based bentonite 4% no addition (CK).
A 40-day aerobic composting experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of acid-alkali modified biochar and calcium-based bentonite on thing maturity and the transformation of heavy metal forms (Cu and Zn). The results showed that at the end of composting, the pH values of the compost piles raged from 7.7 to 8.1 (alkaline), and the EC values were all less than 4 mS·cm⁻¹; the basic physicochemical properties oft treatments met the requirements for harmless disposal.

Treatments F2 and F4 showed better heavy metal immobilization effects. The immobilization rates of Cu and Zn in treatent F2 were 57.98% and 40.94%, respectively, while those in treatment F4 were 50.4 and 47.35%, respectively. The study indicates that the combined application of acid-alkali modified biochar and calcium-based bentonite during composting has a good immobilization effecton Cu and Zn, which can improve the quality of the compost product.
