I change many cases of PercentMCs for this file. These changes result from using estimates of my BEST ESTIMATES of Sexpartners rather than MAXCOPS of earlier analyses. This file is now IDENTICAL to UPDs, Male cops vs percent MCs, 18 Aug 2021 I also make the following three changes to SEXPARTNERS: male-12 (H87) in 1997 (from 5 to 4) male-9 (H51) in 1998 (from 9 to 10), and male-04 (393) in 2004 (from 3 to 4) These changes will affect analyses of (a) ARS for cops for male UPDs, (b) LRS for cops for UPD males, c) Percent MCs vs Sexpartners for UPD males, and (d) Percent MCs vs body mass for UPD males.
Sigh MC = Mating Call, defined in Chapter 16. Notes below indicate that I have ALREADY checked most = data for SEXPARTNERS of earlier versions PercentMCs do not show percent sigh--i.e., 50 and not 50%, 75 and not 75%, and so forth. Date = 14 Aug 2021 Here are stats so that I can compute LRS for cops for UPD males: File name = UPDs, Cum male ARS for cops for male LRS for cops, 14 Aug 2021 NOTE WELL: For analyses of MCs and certain other analyses, be sure to delete cases when sexpartners = 0.
Date = 22 Jan 2021 for EARLIER VERSION of this file. File name = UPDs, Male ARS and LRS for cops, 22 Jan 2021 This file has been checked TWO TIMES on 21-22 Jan 2021. All data in this EXCEL file are from sexually mature males that copulated with at least one female.
A UPD male will have the SAME EARTAGS in different years, but will have a different Dognum in different years For some analyses, I will consider data from the same UPD male in different years to be statistically independent (e.g., Fig 16.6)--but not for other analyses (e.g., Figs 16.8 and 16.10) OKtouse = 1 means that we think we observed most or all copulations by a UPD male in a particular year OKtouse = 0 means that we think we DID NOT OBSERVE most or all copulations by a UPD male in a particular year I confess some subjectivity in the assignments of 1 or 2 to variable = OK to use.
I only use AGE if I was certain--or almost certain--about a UPD male's exact age SEXPARTNERS = minimal number of UPD females with whom UPD male copulated, with or without MCs by the copulating male Note that 1, 2, or 3 UPD males might have the same UPD Marker, but they will have different Eartags. PercentMCs = percentage of male's sexual partners for whom he gave >=1 MC Each male had unique eartags. "Dognum" is a convenient way to identify UPDs within a single year, with no connection to either eartags or Nyanzol marker.
If we had data from the same male in different years, then that male might have 1, 2, 3, or even 4 "Dognums" This file has now been checked TWO TIMES on 22 Jan 2021. PercentMCs in this file are true percents (without the %-sign) rather than proportions. On 10 August 2021, I discover that eartag for UPD male-16 should be K7 instead of K75.
This affects both male-16 (missing) in 1998 and male-40 (2 entries instead of 1) I will need to change certain stats. Should I include 48 (O85) in 2000? No, so Oktouse = 0.
Should I include 29 (P55) in 2000? Yes, because 29 was a roaming male during the 2000 mating season. Should I include 23 in 2001?
No, so Oktouse = 0. Should I include 40 in 2001 and 2002? No, so Oktouse = 0 for 2001 and 2002.
I should delete R16-20 in 2004 for analysis of LRS--but no need to delete for ARS in 2004 Wait! This file is for ARS--so no problem here R41 (Y31) was not sexually mature in 2001. Percent MCs is now missing data for R41.
Note on 11 Aug 2021: Notice this note from above on 22 Jan 2021: SEXPARTNERS = minimal number of UPD females with whom UPD male copulated, with or without MCs by the copulating male File name on 14 Aug 2012 = UPDs, Male ARS for cops, 13 Aug 2021 I revise this file today for Variable = SEXPARTNERS. This revision is based on checking UPD Copulation
Summary
SHEETS AND INCORPORATING ANY CHANGES IN SEXPARTNERS SINCE VERSION OF 22 Jan 2021 Revision = 0 = No change Revision = 1 = change on 13 Aug 2021 This file has now been checked TWO TIMES on 13 Aug 2021 I will use this file for figure that shows ARS for UPD male cops Eventually, I should add info from microsatellites (microsats) on ARS for UPD weanlings and UPDs yearlings See Chapters 19 and 20 for discussion of microsats and assignments of paternity.
Bodymass during mating season = male body mass just before, during, or just after the mating season I define that mating season as the time period that includes the date of the first copulation through the date of the last copulation. On 13 Aug 2021, I delete most data for R01 (F3A) in 2005 Note well: Some of the changes to this file will affect the analyses if mating calls. I should re-do the analyses that are affected by the changes to this file.
In this file if SEXPARTNERS = 0, then I have changed PERCENTMCS to MISSING DATA (.) Earlier version of this file was based on MAXCOPS. This version is based on Mincops = my best estimate of the number of sexual partners for each UPD male. I had three categories of confidence of whether a copulation occurred: Definite cop, with no ?s.
I score all these. Probable cop, but I could not be sure, with ONE? (one question mark).
I score all these. Possible cop, but unlikely, with TWO?s or brackets. For this file, I do NOT score these.
NOTE WELL: For analyses of MCs and certain other analyses, others and I must be sure to delete cases when sexpartners = 0. On 13 Aug 2021, I also verify eartags for all UPDs in this file. Note on 16 August 2021: I need to check the number of sexpartners for this file.
Some of the numbers have changed slightly over last few days. Note on 25 March: I do not think I ever did the check just mentioned. File name = Fig 16.6, 16.8, 16.10, UPDs, Mating calls vs individual variation, sexual partners, and male body mass, 26 May 2026
