The intensive use of fossil fuels not only allowed societal development but also ended up causing severe environmental changes that endangered life on Earth. To preserve our life and the survival of Earth as we know it, we need a global shift from the use of traditional fossil fuel-based energy sources (e.g., coal, oil, and natural gas) to cleaner, more sustainable, and lower environmental impact alternatives, including renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and bio-energy.

In this context, the development of new chemical technologies that empower sustainable and renewable alternatives for energy production, conversion, and usage and for chemical production is necessary and highly demanded.
