Canadian Health and Disability Survey, 1983-1984: Adult File

The project was sponsored by the Health Division of Statistics Canada in response to the recommendation by the Special Parliamentary Committee on the Disabled and the Handicapped, in 1981, to initiate a long-term programme to generate comprehensive data on disabled persons in Canada.

The Adult file contains interviewer-administered questionnaire responses collected from adults aged 15 to 64. These respondents were first screened with the Labour Force Survey and indicated one or more disabling condition(s). Categories include: screening & follow-up, nature of disability, the use of aids, employment, education, transportation, accommodation, economic characteristics (income), derived variables, geographic variables, and additional demographic variables.
