Reptiles and Amphibians of Portugal Collection of the Science Museum, University of Coimbra, Portugal

The specimens primarily date from the 19th and 20th centuries, with three specimens from the 21st century and other three from the Ancient Collection (C.A.) of undetermined date. Initially curated by Lopes Vieira in 1887, the collection underwent subsequent updates.

A digital inventory was started in 2012 and updated in 2020 and following years during which new catalog numbers were assigned, and taxonomic nomenclature was revised. Following a full revision in 2024, aligned with current nomenclature from AmphibiaWeb and The Reptile Database, this collection now represents a significant resource for herpetological research, offering valuable insights into Portugal's herpetofauna diversity and distribution.
