Replication Data for: Figs 16.4 and 16.5, WTPDs, Length of mating calls and cumulative length of all MCs, 23 May 2026

Description

Note

All data here are for estrous WTPD females that elicited >=1 MC i.e., estrous females that elicited 0 MCs are not shown here Data from the SAME female in DIFFERENT years are considered independent. I have no data here from eartags--so I therefore cannot examine data from the same female in different years. WTPD Dognum = Designation of estrous female in single year Some WTPD estrous females elicited only one MC--hence only one line of data Other WTPD estrous females elicited several MCs--hence several lines of data When several MCs for single female, I list the WTPD only once, but I list the WTPD Dognum for every line--so that I can group data from the same WTPD estrous female in the same year No data for WTPD with WTPD Dognum = 35.

Read the rest (6 more)

This is a clerical mistake of no consequence. Note, however, this error means that I have data from at total of 78 WTPD estrous females that elicited >=1 MC--not a total of 79 as indicated by the case numbers here Note also: NO DATA on MC times for H5 = WTPD Dognum = 47 in 2010 So, total number of WTPD estrous females that elicited >=1 MC will be 77 --because H6 (Dognumber =47) should not be in this EXCEL file because she did not elicit any MCs in 2010 for only 7 WTPD females Hmmm…On 23 May 2026, I do not understand/do not remember why I did not include data from the 7 estrous WTPD females from 2007.

Note again: All data in this file checked TWO TIMES With SYSTAT, I will be able to generate (a) mean time of MC from this dataset that includes every WTPD MC we heard from 2006 through 2012 (except 2007) and (b) cumulative time for all MCs elicited by each estrous WTPD female In most cases, I rounded MC time to the nearest tenth (e.g., 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, etc.) In a few cases, I rounded MC time to the nearest hundredth (e.g., 0.33. 0.42. 0.17, etc.) All MC times are in MINUTES.

Cumulative duration per female for all MCs comes from the SUM feature in SYSTAT for Length of each MC On 21 Nov, I also discover no data for WTPD Dog number = 25. This is a clerical error of no consequence. The dog with the error is WTPD-55 in 2008.

I DO record WTPD-55's data for 2008, but I mislabeled he WTPD Dognum So, this means that I have data from a total of 76 WTPD estrous females for (a) all MC times from all estrous females and (b) cumulative length of MC times per estrous female These data used for Figs 16.4 and 16.5 in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 21 March 2025. I considered data from the same prairie dog in different years to be independent.

All durations and lengths in MINUTES. Number of males that gave MC = number of different males that gave at least one MC Cumulative number of separate MCs for each female = total, cumulative number of MCs for each estrous female Length of each MC = length of each MC for each estrous female (mins). This length includes one data point for every MC by females from 2006 through 2012 (except 2007, as noted above) Remember: Many females did not elicit a single MC (i.e., Cumulative number of MCs = 0) MC = Mating Call Litter size = mother's litter size weaning = number of weanlings that emerge from natal nursery burrow Two mating calls were not considered separate unless they were separated by >=30 seconds.

When a female elicited 3 separate MCs, for example, I list the WTPD or WTPD Dogmum once, but I list the 3 MCs on 3 separate lines WTPD = Nyanzol marker for WTPD female WTPD Dognum = numerical identification for each female, assigned by JLH Each female could have SEVERAL lengths of each MC if she elicited several MCs--but she could have only ONE Cumulative time for all MCs for each single female Cumulative duration for all MCs for each single female (mins) = summation of all Lengths of each MC for each single female File name = Figs 16.4 and 16.5, WTPDs, Length of mating calls and cumulative length of all MCs, 23 May 2026
