We collected data using E-Prime 3.0)·Stimulus figures presented in the experiment.data·Raw data files (.edat) from each participant·A CSV file that merges all participants' data.Data processing R code·R code used to process the raw data.Analyses and results·JASP files (.jasp) containing the analyses and results.output·Figures created by the R script.·CSV data files created by the R script, used for analyses in JASP.Run the experiment To run the experiment, you need E‑Prime 2.08 or a later version.
Place the stimuli folder in the same directory as the E‑Prime experiment file (i.e., the es2 file). Set your computer's screen resolution to 1024×768 or an equivalent aspect ratio.Reproduce the behavioral result.Required software: RStudio and JASP.Step 1 – Prepare the merged dataThe merged data file (e.g., 1-27.csv of Experiment 1) contains data from all participants. If you need to regenerate it: use E‑Merge (installed with E‑Prime) to merge individual raw data files, then export as CSV.Step 2 – Run the R scriptOpen RStudio and run the R script provided in the analyses and results folder.
This will process the merged data, generate figures, and reshape the data into a structure suitable for JASP analysis. All output files (figures and CSV files) will be saved in the output folder. Annotations for the critical experimental variables used in data processing can be found in the R script.Step 3 – Run JASPUse JASP software to analyze the CSV files output by R. These files include data for RT, accuracy, and probe recall analyses.
In the JASP file, the settings for each corresponding analysis can be viewed, along with the results reported in the manuscript. The JASP results are also uploaded as HTML files for convenience.ERP dataFor Experiment 4, there are several additional folders: EEGpreprocessing, ERP analyse, Permutation-Based Mass-Univariate Analysis, Supplementary Analysis, and ERP grand average data. The EEGpreprocessing folder contains the EEG data processing code (MATLAB .m files) and the event list in a text file. The ERP analyse folder contains the ERP data of each participant (e.g., the amplitude or latency of the N2pc component under different conditions), as well as the JASP file for statistical analysis. The Supplementary Analysis folder contains the results of the complementary analysis using a fixed 200–400 ms window. The ERP grand average data folder contains the uploaded grand average ERP file [1-29(~9~24).erp], which can be opened with EEGLAB to plot the grand average ERP waveforms for each condition. The raw EEG data for each participant were uploaded and, due to file size limitations, split into four folders.
These data are provided solely for replication purposes.
