<p dir="ltr">The study aimed to explore and describe the experiences of family members who avoid contact with mental health care users during hospital treatment at a tertiary hospital in Gauteng.
Description
This study used a qualitative, explorative, and descriptive design to explore the experiences of family members who avoid contact with mental health care users during hospital treatment at a tertiary hospital in Gauteng. Non-probability sampling was used to purposively sample 15 family members to conduct one-on-one semi-structured interviews.
The interviews were transcribed and analysed using Braun and Clarke's six steps of thematic analysis. Four themes emerged, namely experiences of family members caring for the mental health care user, challenges of taking care of the mental health care user, coping strategies used by family members and support needs of the family members.</p><p dir="ltr"><br></p>
