Data for Students’ Perspective on Parental Involvement in Children’s Education: A Case Study of (at-risk) Secondary School Students Under Punakha Dzongkhag

Data is from a case study which investigated the perspectives of at-risk Secondary School students on parental involvement in their children’s education.
Description
The parents of the participant of this study are either demised, separated or divorced. The study was undertaken to determine which member(s) of the family are actively involved in the education of at-risk students.
The findings of this study revealed some barriers and prominent areas of parental involvement in the process of educating the at-risk students. Survey questionnaires, focus group discussions and writing of narrative stories were employed in order to answer the research question(s). This study employed mixed-method approach aimed at achieving an in-depth study of 257 participants.

The data obtained were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings from the study revealed that participants experienced feelings of sadness, distress, abandonment, anger, helplessness and stress after their parent’s death, separation or divorce. The results indicated that family dissolution by means of death, separation, and divorce impacted children's behavior, financial stability, and academic performance negatively.
These findings have facilitated the researchers in garnering recommendations which would benefit the parents, students and other relevant stakeholders.
