写作 Dataset on Seedling Growth and Post-transplant Survival of Medicago falcata under Different Nursery Substrate Formulations, Container Sizes, and Seedling Ages in Hulunbuir, 2023
Listed in ScienceDB
This dataset was generated from a nursery and transplanting experiment on Medicago falcata conducted in 2023 at the Hulunbuir Grassland Agricultural Experiment Station, Inner Mongolia, China (49°28′ N, 120°10′ E; 703 m a.s.l.).
Description
The experiment examined the effects of nursery substrate formulation, inorganic fertilizer level, nursery container size, and seedling age on pre-transplant seedling growth, nutrient contents of the nursery substrate, and early post-transplant performance.
Seedlings were raised in a greenhouse and subsequently transplanted into degraded grassland. Seedling survival and the aboveground biomass of surviving plants were assessed 60 days after transplanting. The dataset contains 17 UTF-8-encoded CSV files organized into two groups: data used for Figures 1–4 and data used for the regression analyses in Figure 5. The files contain a total of 138 data rows, 1,606 valid numerical observations, and 79 blank cells.

All files are comma-delimited and can be opened directly using Microsoft Excel, WPS Office, R, Python, or other software that supports CSV files. The original wide-table structure has been retained. Treatment codes are provided in the first column or column headings, and repeated columns or rows within each treatment represent observations from different plants or samples. The substrate formulation and inorganic fertilizer experiment is represented by seven CSV files.
These files contain data on pre-transplant plant height, stem diameter, and aboveground biomass; aboveground biomass of surviving plants 60 days after transplanting; and ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, and organic carbon contents of the nursery substrate under four ratios of native soil to organic fertilizer and five inorganic fertilizer levels. S10O0, S9O1, S8O2, and S7O3 represent native soil-to-organic fertilizer volume ratios of 10:0, 9:1, 8:2, and 7:3, respectively, while M0–M4 represent the five inorganic fertilizer levels.
The files containing pre-transplant plant height, stem diameter, aboveground biomass, and substrate nutrient data are arranged as matrices with four organic fertilizer treatment rows and 50 observation columns. The post-transplant aboveground biomass file contains four treatment rows and 25 observation columns. Plant height is expressed in cm, stem diameter in mm, aboveground biomass in g·plant⁻¹, and ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, and organic carbon contents in g·kg⁻¹.The nursery container-size experiment is represented by four CSV files containing pre-transplant plant height, stem diameter, and aboveground biomass, as well as the aboveground biomass of surviving plants 60 days after transplanting, for the D3H10, D3H15, D5H10, D5H15, D8H10, and D8H15 treatments.
In the treatment codes, D denotes container diameter and H denotes container height, both in cm. Each pre-transplant variable file contains 10 rows of observations for six treatments. Because seedling mortality was high in the D3H10 and D3H15 treatments during the nursery stage, seedlings from these treatments were not transplanted into the field.
The post-transplant aboveground biomass file therefore contains only the D5H10, D5H15, D8H10, and D8H15 treatments, with five observations per treatment. The seedling-age experiment is represented by four CSV files containing pre-transplant plant height, stem diameter, and aboveground biomass, as well as the aboveground biomass of surviving plants 60 days after transplanting, for seedlings aged 20, 30, and 40 days. D20, D30, and D40 represent seedling ages of 20, 30, and 40 days, respectively.
Each pre-transplant variable file contains 10 rows of observations for three treatments, while the post-transplant aboveground biomass file contains five rows of observations for three treatments. The regression data for Figure 5 are provided in two CSV files. These files contain pre-transplant plant height, pre-transplant aboveground biomass, and the corresponding survival rates 60 days after transplanting for 20 combinations of organic and inorganic fertilizer treatments.
The first column contains the treatment-combination code, the second column contains the pre-transplant phenotypic trait, and the third column contains the post-transplant survival rate. Plant height is expressed in cm, aboveground biomass in g·plant⁻¹, and survival rate as a percentage. The 79 blank cells in the dataset primarily reflect differences in the numbers of valid plants or samples among treatments.
A blank cell indicates that no valid observation was available and should not be interpreted as zero. Missing values were not imputed. Post-transplant aboveground biomass was measured only for surviving plants.
When at least five plants survived within a treatment, five plants were randomly selected for measurement; when fewer than five plants survived, all surviving plants were measured. The files retain the original measurement precision, and neither missing-value imputation nor outlier replacement was performed. The dataset can be used to analyze nursery treatment effects, conduct analyses of variance and regression analyses, and reproduce the associated figures.
