Recreational Reformer Pilates Participation

Listed in ScienceDB

This dataset supports a cross-sectional study examining the associations between recreational Reformer Pilates participation duration, physical self-perception, and intuitive eating among adults in Türkiye.

Description

The study also examined whether physical self-perception statistically accounted for duration-group differences in intuitive eating and whether these indirect associations varied according to age.Data were collected during 2025 through an online questionnaire.

Participants were recruited from Pilates studios and online Pilates-related communities using convenience sampling. Eligibility required participants to be at least 18 years old and to attend Reformer Pilates sessions at least once per week. The final dataset contains 316 complete participant records.

Participants were between 19 and 67 years of age.Reformer Pilates participation duration was recorded in three categories: less than 1 year, 1–3 years, and 3 years or longer. Weekly participation frequency was recorded as one lesson, two to three lessons, or four or more lessons per week.Intuitive eating was assessed using the 21-item Modified Turkish Intuitive Eating Scale–2. Items 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, and 9 were reverse-scored, and the overall intuitive-eating score was calculated as the mean of all 21 items.

Higher scores indicate greater intuitive eating.Physical self-perception was assessed using the Turkish Physical Self Inventory. In accordance with the Turkish validation study, Item 3 was excluded because of its weak factor loading. The remaining 24 correctly oriented items cover global self-worth, physical self-worth, physical condition, sport competence, physical appearance, and physical strength.

Their mean was used as a study-specific broad physical self-perception composite. This composite should not be interpreted as a validated unidimensional total score. The dataset was screened for missing values, response ranges, response-pattern irregularities, univariate and multivariate outliers, influential observations, and distributional properties. The 316 retained cases had complete data for the variables used in the primary analysis, and no cases were excluded solely on the basis of an automated outlier criterion. The primary analysis used a first-stage moderated mediation model.

Participation duration was entered as a multicategorical predictor, with less than 1 year as the reference category. Physical self-perception was the mediator, intuitive eating was the outcome, age was the first-stage moderator, and weekly participation frequency was included as a covariate. Age was mean-centred, and conditional indirect associations were estimated using 5,000 bootstrap samples.

The analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 29, Hayes’s PROCESS macro, and IBM SPSS AMOS.The shared materials may be used to reproduce the reported descriptive statistics, reliability analyses, correlations, measurement-model analyses, and conditional process analysis. They may also support secondary methodological and psychometric analyses. Because the study was cross-sectional and observational, the data cannot establish temporal order or causal effects. All direct personal identifiers have been removed from the shared files.

Users should nevertheless avoid attempting to identify individual participants or combining these data with external information for re-identification. Ethical approval was obtained from the Kırıkkale University Social and Human Sciences Research Ethics Committee before data collection (decision date: 17 May 2025; session no. 05; decision no. 34; document date and number: 22 May 2025–337408). Electronic informed consent was obtained from all participants.
