Current Population Survey (CPS) Basic Monthly Data Files

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

The agency conducted the CPS on behalf of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Description

CPS was used to provide monthly estimates of employment, unemployment and other characteristics of the general labor force, of the population as a whole and of various subgroups of the population. The agency routinely released public use microdata files with CPS microdata beginning in 1968.

This series consists of public use microdata files containing core questions included in every CPS. The CPS is a household sa mple survey of approximately 50,000 households. The core questions on employment status and other basic demographic characteristics supply standard monthly labor force data for the week prior to the survey.
