Youth Athlete Anthropometric, Physical Performance, Body Composition and Blood Biomarker Dataset from Latvia

This dataset originates from a cross-sectional observational study conducted within the Latvian National Research Programme project “Innovations, methodologies and recommendations for the development and management of the sports sector in Latvia” (VPP-IZM-Sports-2023/1-0001), sub-study “Physical and mental health risks in children and youth sports”. It includes data from 333 youth athletes aged 11–19 years from professional sports education institutions in Latvia and contains anthropometric and body-composition measurements, aerobic and anaerobic exercise-test outputs, laboratory biomarkers, and selected biological maturation estimates.

Data were collected using standardized anthropometric, bioimpedance, treadmill and cycle-ergometer testing protocols, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, Wingate testing, and laboratory analyses of venous blood samples. Data were cleaned, pseudonymized, standardized for variable naming and missing-value coding, and accompanied by a detailed codebook.
