Weight Misperception Among Adults with Obesity in Türkiye: Anthropometric and Sociodemographic Determinants from a Nationwide Multicenter Cross-Sectional Study

In the primary multivariable model, higher BMI, female sex, lower educational attainment, current anti-obesity medication use, absence of reported cost-related healthcare access barriers, and lack of perceived need for anti-obesity medication were associated with WU. After accounting for study-center clustering, the associations with BMI, female sex, and current medication use remained statistically significant, whereas those with education, cost-related barriers, and lack of perceived medication need were less certain.

For WO, associations with older age, lower BMI, and perceived medication need remained statistically significant in the center-adjusted analysis. The BMI-based multinomial model had the highest reported Nagelkerke pseudo-R², but discrimination of the combined WM outcome was limited across all five binary models (AUC 0.542–0.549).</p><p dir="ltr"><b>Conclusions:</b> WM was common in this multicenter, clinic-based sample of adults with obesity.

WU and WO showed distinct associations with anthropometric, demographic, and treatment-related factors. Findings concerning education, cost-related healthcare access barriers, and WU require cautious interpretation in view of their sensitivity to study-center clustering.</p>
